Alwar City

Naldeshwar, 24 km from Alwar, is a picturesque spot situated amidst rocky hills. Naldeshwar is famous for an ancient Mahadeva Temple which has natural Shivalingam. The old Shiva temple has natural Shivalingam; its architectural beauty and two natural bunds or ponds which receive water from the surrounding hills look picturesque especially during rains.

This ancient township was founded by Raja Bhagwan Das, the then ruler of Amber in the later half of sixteenth century and was made capital of Madho Singh, brother of Raja Man Singh. The remains at Bhangadh consist of fort walls, bazars, havelis, temples, royal palaces, maqbara, etc. Among temples, important are Gopinath temple, Somesvara temple, Keshava Rai temple, and Mangla Devi temple. The royal palace is said to have seven storeys known asSatamahala but now only four storeys remain. A stone inscription on the bank of the Som Sagar Talav, 5 km away from Bhangadh, reveals that Madho Singh was Diwan in the court of Mughal emperor Akbar.

All that now exists in Moti Doongri ("Pearl Hill") is a massive fortified wall, with a flat empty space at the crest of the hill. The elegant hundred roomed palace that stood here was dynamited out of existence by Maharaja Jai Singh. . Bala Qila - Situated on a craggy hill that dominates the town is Bala Qila. Built on the foundation of an ancient mud fort constructed in AD 928 by the Nikumbh Rajputs, it was successively occupied by the warring Mughals Pathans and Jats before finally being captured by Raja Pratap Singh in 1775.

Moosi Rani Ki Chhatri is a very wonderful Chhatri built in memory of Moosi Rani, wife of Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh. It took nine years (1804 A.D. to 1813 A.D.) to complete the construction of the tank.

The palace Museum has a wonderful collection of exhibits of the personal wealth of the Maharajas of Alwar section which has some historic swords belonging to the likes of Sultan Muhammed Ghori, emperors Akbar and Aurangzeb.

Alwar’s Jain Temple is one of the many reasons why people consider visiting this city of Rajasthan. The temple is considered to be atishaya kshetra (a place of salvation) and is often known as Tijara Jain Temple. This is an important pilgrimage site for the followers of Jainism. In 1956, Tijara Jain Temple was established and an idol of Chandraprabha was placed here. The idol was unearthed from the ground, which makes people believe that this place was once a dehra (Place where Jain idols are worshipped). Principal deity of Tijara Templs is of Chandraprabhu, which is 15 inch tall and is built from white-stone. According to the inscription on the idol, it was installed on the third day of Vishakha Shukla, in 1554. The idol is placed in a rectangular temple along with another idol made of black stone

The bridge of Pandupol is related to the Pandavas who spent part of their time in exile here secretly. At one place, there are two hills meet together. The way was obstructed which was broken upon by Bheem, the most powerful of the Pandavas with his Gada (mace). Situated midst the game century of Sariska, the place has special charm. Sariska National Park is home to numerous carnivores including Leopard, Wild Dog, Jungle Cat, Hyena, Jackal, and Tiger. These feed on an abundance of prey species such as Sambar, Chitel, Nilgai, Chausingha, Wild Boar and Langur. Sariska is also well known for its large population of Rhesus Monkeys, which are found in large numbers around Talvriksh. The avian world is also well represented with a rich and varied birdlife. These include Peafowl, Grey Partridge, Bush Quail, Sand Grouse, Tree Pie, Golden backed Wood Pecker, Crested Serpent Eagle and the Great Indian Horned Owl.

Ajabgarh & Bhangarh is a ruined town in the Alwar district of the state of Rajasthan, India, most famous for its historical ruins. It is said to be a haunted place. Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has put up a signboard by the main gate stating (among others): "Entering the borders of Bhangarh before sunrise and after sunset is strictly prohibited." The reason for this may be that there can be wild animals and it could be unsafe because there is no artificial lighting. Bhangarh is at the edge of the Sariska Tiger Reserve. Bhangarh is a place between Jaipur and Delhi in Rajasthan state of India. Bhangarh is known for its ruins, but still worth a visit; the place is beautiful and tranquil. What remains though, is a shadow of a once beautiful kingdom.

This tomb was made in honour of Fateh Jung who used to work in the court of Shah Jahan. The tomb of Fateh Jang is a classic representation of Rajput and Mughal architecture. It is made up of high quality minarets and sandstones, which catch everybody's attention. This tomb is a fine example of Indo-Islamic architecture and was built under the reign of Shah Jahan (Mughal emperor). This five-storied splendour surpasses all the contemporary monuments.

Built in 1868, this garden is the most picturesque place in Alwar and was built under the rule of the Maharaja Shiv Dan Singh. This garden is also known as 'Shimla' because it is always cooler as compared to the prevalent temperature. The garden was originally named Company Garden; later Maharaja Jai Singh changed it to Purjan Vihar.

Vijay Mandir Palace is the royal residency of Maharaja Jai Singh. Built by Maharaja Jai Singh, the splendid architecture of the place along with its historical importance make it a must visit during Alwar tours. This sprawling place constitutes 105 rooms. It is surrounded by lush green garden (6 miles in length) and a quaint lake. Within the palace complex is a beautiful Sita Ram temple, generally crowded with devotees and visitors alike.
